AGV Helmets Australia WA STATE ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP

Wanneroo Raceway – 23rd May 2021
The Motor Cycle Racing Club of WA will host the second round of the AGV Helmets Australia WA State Road Racing Championship at Wanneroo Raceway on Sunday 23rd May. Round 1 was held on the 21st March at the Collie Motorplex long track, so Sunday will be the first time the competitors have raced at Wanneroo in 2021.
The event will cater for the Superbike, Supersport, Sidecar, Production and Junior State Championships, along with supporting classes of Clubman and B-Grade Series. Practice and Qualifying from 9.00am with racing from approximately 10.45am.
In the Triton Electrical Superbike Championship we welcome back the defending champion Sam Clarke (RS36/Rick Gill Suzuki GSXR 1000). Having sat out Rd1 following a training injury, he will return for this round and will be hell bent on reducing the 75 points advantage held by Ben Stronach (Grundfos/Aark Suspension Yamaha R1). Also well in contention and ready for the battle at the front are seasoned campaigners Adam Senior (Silkolene/Hydroquip Yamaha R1) and Cameron Stronach (Motorcycle Movers/C&S Mining Ducati 1299 Panigale) with his bike repaired and ready to take up the challenge.
The Cullys Yamaha Supersport Championship once again looks to be a battle between the 2020 Champion Tommy King (Keen Edge Construction Kawasaki ZX-6) and Bronson Pickett (K.E.B. Truck Parking/GoMoto Store Yamaha R6). These two know each other very well and it is hard to see anyone throwing up a serious consistent challenge to the two front runners. Lachlan Hickey (TwoFour Motorsports/ JB Racing Kawasaki ZX-6) will be hard on their heels and will capitalise should anything untoward happen at the front.
The GoMoto Store Production Championship will more than likely be a repeat of Rd 1 with just one enormous difference. Will Wasley, (Jetts Averley/RSDecals Yamaha R3) who had a round to forget, will be keen to show just what he is capable of, and will throw out the challenge to Rd 1 winner Jayden Martin (Aussie Moto Engineering Yamaha R3) and place getters Jordan White (GoMoto Store/DJ White Contracting Kawasaki Ninja 300) and Hannah Stewart (Earmould Australia/SGM Yamaha R3). These four in one combination or another should take out the podium for the class, but the slightest mistake and will see the likes of Ethan Thompson (Snap Fitness/Allautoworx Kawasaki Ninja 300) and veteran Paddy Browne (LPB Industries/Trakdayz Yamaha R3) snapping at their collective heels.
The Professional Printers Sidecar Championships looks to be a one horse race for the win with Dillan McDermott/Grady Norris proving they are almost unbeatable. Most of the interest will be seeing just who can take out the minor podium spots. Murray Stronach/Steve Marshall and Graeme Evans/Robert Dillon look to be the two contenders, but don’t discount Gary Cushnahan/Michael Matesich or the fast improving Marshall brothers. The battle for the minor placings should provide plenty of entertainment.
The Senior Engineering Junior Championship sees a small but talented field of riders take to the track. Calvin Moylan (Major Luck Lottery Centre Yamaha R15) will be keen to repeat his performance from the HCMC ‘King of Collie meeting where he won three from three. He may not have things all his own way with Ethan Thompson (Sean Watson Motorsports Composites Yamaha R15), doing double duties, along with Jack Dowling (Banhams/MotoTT Yamaha R15) Bruce Oliver (Yamaha R15) Joel Jenzen (Streetwise Automotive & Transport Yamaha R15) and Abbie Cameron (Ozsteel Design. Razor Racing Yamaha R15) all capable of an upset should the front runners falter.
The B-Grade Series and Clubman Series always provide excellent racing to support the Championship classes, with the Clubman class once again having the biggest field at Round 2. Several riders will be stepping up to the B-grade, Supersport and Superbike classes after showing some great riding at Round 1. It will be interesting to see how these riders go with the new challenge.

MCRCWA attended the York Motorcycle Festival on a rather wet Sunday on 11 April 2021.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the stand to say hello! Thanks go to Tim Simmons for displaying the current State Championship leading R1 from VRT Racing Team #35 ridden by Ben Stronach, and also to the GoMoto Store team for also displaying two of their bikes #38 Yamaha R6 ridden by Andrew Biffen and ZX10R #109 Warren French.

The LCR Suzuki 1000cc sidecar of #9 Gary Cushnahan was a big hit with a few lucky kids who got to sit inside and pretend to ride it.

Due to the weather unfortunately rather than a few thousand attendees there were a few less, but the hardened riders still came out in the wet. It stopped raining mid-morning so everyone was able view the stalls, watch the Harley Wheelies and Supermoto display … oh and eat some hot jam donuts!

Next year is the 10th Anniversary of the York Motorcycle Festival so let’s try to make our presence even bigger and stronger.

Round 1 Race Report https://steamlinedesign.com/MCRCWA/round-1-race-report/ https://steamlinedesign.com/MCRCWA/round-1-race-report/#respond Mon, 12 Apr 2021 13:32:56 +0000 https://steamlinedesign.com/MCRCWA/?p=5487

Sunday 21st March saw the Motor Cycle Racing Club of WA state the first of the six round AGV Helmets Australia WA State Road Racing Champsionships which will be run at both Wanneroo Raceway and Collie Motorplex.

The weather was a little on the warm side and the action put on by the riders was even hotter.   Kicking off the action was the ‘B Grade’ Series with Adam Parsons (Triton Roof Plumbing Triumph 675) the winner from Sean McHale (Razor Racing Suzuki GSX-R 1000) with Lachlan Hickey (JB Racing Kawasaki ZX6) in third place.

The Rick Gill Motorcycles Clubman series saw 27 riders greet the starter. After three hard races it was Stephen Blount (Gomoto Store Honda CBR 1000RR) stood atop the podium with three wins and 75 points. Second was Francesco Bietto (Scooter Shop Australia Yamaha R1) with 57 points and third was Adrian O’Callaghan (Yamaha R6) with 52 points.

The Professional Printers Sidecar Championship went exactly as expected with Dillan McDermott/Grady Norris (Super Spray Suzuki LCR) winning both championship races plus the reverse grid/handicap race. Graeme Evans/Robert Dillon (RHR ZX10) were second in both the championship races and veteran pairing Murray Stronach/Stephen Marshall (Aceman Ent RHR ZX10) had a brace of third places.

The GoMoto Store Production Championship provided some of the best racing on the day. This class is predominately made up of previous years Junior racers and three of them stood on the podium after three hard fought races. Jayden Martin (PTT Lubricants Yamaha R3) stood on the top step with 68 points after two wins and a third place. Second was Jordan White (Gomoto Store Ninja 300) with 60 points and third was Hannah Stewart (Igen Racing Yamaha R3) with 51 points.

In the Triton Electrical Superbike Championship the three way battle didn’t quite eventuate with brothers Ben and Cameron Stronach and Adam Senior. In the absence of injured Sam Clarke the three were expected to make the podium theirs, but the Ducati of the younger Stronach expired on the previous Saturday, so it was out with the BMW he rode a few years ago but that too expired with a broken ‘Big End’. Jeff Cameron came to the rescue with his spare Honda, so at least the weekend wasn’t wasted for Cameron. Ben Stronach (VRT Signs Yamaha R1) took the three wins for 75 points Adam Senior (Hydroquip Yamaha R1) kept him honest with three solid second place for 60 points and Raymond Kies (GoMoto Store ZX 10R) in third place overall with 54 points. He also leads the Superbike ‘C’ grade championship with 75 points.

The The Cullys Yamaha Supersport Championship saw the top two from 2020 go head to head again over three races with Tommy King (Keen Edge Construction ZX6) once again the winner with three wins for a perfect score. Bronson Pickett (FastFix Services Yamaha R6) placed 2nd overall with three second places and third, while Lachlan Hickey (Trakdayz ZX6) finished third overall with 52 points. Chris Vance (Doolans Heavy Haulage Yamaha R6) leads the Supersport ‘C’grade championship with 75 points.

Round 2 will be run at Wanneroo Raceway on Sunday 23rd May.

PRE-EVENT UPDATE: 2021 WA State Road Racing Championships Round 1 https://steamlinedesign.com/MCRCWA/pre-event-update-2021-wa-state-road-racing-championships-round-1/ https://steamlinedesign.com/MCRCWA/pre-event-update-2021-wa-state-road-racing-championships-round-1/#respond Mon, 12 Apr 2021 13:20:45 +0000 https://steamlinedesign.com/MCRCWA/?p=5473 This Sunday 21st March sees the MCRC launch the 2021 AGV Helmets Australia WA State Road Racing Championships with the first of the six round Championship at the Collie Motorplex.

There will be two qualifying sessions that will be followed by 16 races, three for each class plus the ‘B’ grade race.

In the Triton Electrical Superbike Championship the defending champion will not be racing at Rd 1 following a training accident so the likes of Ben Stronach, Cameron Stronach and Adam Senior will all be keen to bag as many points as possible during his enforced absence. A couple of guys who could just cause an upset are Rob Fannin on his brand new Yamaha R1 and Josh Mathers on a Kawasaki ZX-10. Josh is also on the recovery trail following injury.

In the Cullys Yamaha Supersport Championship all eyes will be on defending champion Tommy King and the 2020 runner up Bronson Pickett. Waiting in the wings for the slightest mistake will be Andrew Biffen, Lachlan Hickey, Adam Parsons and a dark horse would have to be Paul Joshua, who is new to MCRC but has been very competitive on two and three wheels on the historic scene.

In the GoMoto Store Production Championship there are five youngsters who are new to the class having recently moved up from the Junior Road Racing Championship, versus the experienced brigade like David Manson and Patrick Browne. This will be an interesting class to follow with all of the ex- juniors showing a huge amount of potential in early season practice runs.

In the Professional Printers Sidecar Championships the majority of the boys have had one hit out already in 2021 at the King of Collie meeting and it is very hard to look past Dillan McDermott/Grady Norris to back up last years championship with a second. Graeme Evans/Robert Dillon, Murray Stronach/Steve Marshall and Gary Cushnahan/Michael Matesich will be strong contenders for the minor places and don’t discount the hard charging Sam Watson/Eamon Hegarty on the 600 F2 machine.

In the Rick Gill Motorcycles Clubman class there is a field of 28 nominated starters and it would be a game man who would try and pick a winner. There are also a good number of new riders whose potential has not yet been seen.
